국가유산청 국립해양유산연구소(소장 이은석)가 관람객 중심의 유연한 관람환경 조성을 위해 전시해설 서비스 운영 방식을 대폭 개편했다.

연구소는 4월 28일부터 목포해양유물전시관을 찾는 관람객을 대상으로 기존 ‘사전 예약제’ 중심의 전시해설을 ‘현장 접수 상시 운영’ 방식으로 확대 시행한다고 밝혔다.

그동안 전시해설을 이용하기 위해서는 전화 예약이 필수였으나, 이번 개편으로 별도 예약 없이도 전시관 안내데스크에서 신청서를 작성하면 누구나 즉석에서 해설 프로그램에 참여할 수 있게 됐다.

현장 접수 기반의 상설 해설 서비스는 매주 화요일부터 일요일까지 오전 11시와 오후 2시, 하루 2회 운영되며 회당 약 40분 동안 진행된다. 관람객의 안전과 원활한 해설 진행을 위해 회당 참여 인원은 선착순 15명으로 제한된다.

기존의 전화 예약 방식도 병행 운영된다.
화요일부터 금요일까지 오전 10시부터 오후 4시 사이(현장 접수 시간인 오전 11시, 오후 2시 제외)에 희망 시간대를 선택해 전화 예약이 가능하며, 예약은 이용 희망일 기준 1주일 전까지 접수할 수 있다.

전시해설 프로그램은 전문 교육을 이수한 자원봉사 해설사와 함께 제1전시실 ‘한국 해양교류실’부터 제4전시실 ‘한국의 전통배’까지 순차적으로 관람하는 방식으로 진행된다.

특히 한국 수중발굴 50주년의 역사와 함께 바닷속 문화유산에 얽힌 다양한 이야기를 생생하게 전달해 관람객의 이해를 높일 것으로 기대된다.
연구소는 이번 상시 해설 운영을 시작으로 오는 7월부터는 해설 횟수를 하루 4회로 점차 확대해 보다 많은 국민이 해양유산을 깊이 있게 체험할 수 있도록 할 계획이다.

국립해양유산연구소 관계자는 “이번 운영 방식 개편을 통해 국내외 관람객과의 소통을 한층 강화할 수 있을 것”이라며 “앞으로도 세계인이 찾는 글로벌 해양문화 거점으로서 해양유산의 보존과 활용에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

The Korea Heritage Service’s National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (Director: Lee Eun-seok) has significantly revamped its guided tour operations to create a more flexible and visitor-friendly experience.
Starting April 28, the institute announced that it will expand its guided tour service at the Mokpo Maritime Museum Exhibition Hall, shifting from a reservation-based system to an on-site, walk-in registration model.
Previously, visitors were required to make phone reservations in advance to join guided tours. Under the new system, however, anyone can participate immediately by simply filling out an application form at the museum’s information desk—no prior booking required.
The walk-in guided tour program will be available twice daily, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., from Tuesday through Sunday. Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes, with participation limited to 15 people on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure safety and smooth communication.
The existing phone reservation system will continue to operate in parallel. Reservations can be made from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (excluding the 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. walk-in sessions), and must be completed at least one week in advance of the desired visit date.
The guided tour program is led by trained volunteer docents and takes visitors through a sequential exploration of the museum—from Gallery 1, “Korean Maritime Exchange,” to Gallery 4, “Traditional Korean Ships.”
In particular, the program offers vivid storytelling about the 50-year history of underwater archaeological excavations in Korea, along with fascinating insights into cultural treasures discovered beneath the sea, enhancing visitors’ overall understanding and engagement.
Building on this new on-site service, the institute plans to gradually expand the number of daily guided tours to four sessions starting in July, allowing more visitors to experience Korea’s rich maritime heritage in depth.
An official from the institute stated, “This operational change is expected to significantly strengthen communication with both domestic and international visitors,” adding, “We will continue our efforts to preserve and promote maritime heritage as a global cultural hub visited by people from around the world.”
