김 예비후보 측은 “권노갑 이사장을 비롯한 원로들의 합류는 광주·전남 통합과 균형발전에 대한 폭넓은 공감대가 형성됐기 때문”이라며 “경험과 신뢰, 정책 역량을 갖춘 리더십에 대한 선택이 집결되고 있다”고 평가했다.
박광태 전 시장 등 원로 인사들은 김 예비후보에 대해 “40년 만의 통합이라는 중대한 과제를 갈등 없이 안정적으로 이끌 수 있는 유일한 후보”라고 강조했다.

이어 “공직자 출신으로 국회의원, 장관, 전남도지사를 거치며 실무와 정책을 모두 경험했고, 성과로 검증된 행정가”라며 “청렴성과 소통 능력까지 갖춘 준비된 리더”라고 평가했다.
실제 김 예비후보는 최근 토론회와 정책 발표를 통해 ‘즉시 투입형 행정가’를 전면에 내세우며, 통합특별시 출범 초기 혼선을 최소화할 수 있는 실행형 리더십을 강조해왔다.

캠프 내부에서는 이번 원로 그룹의 결집이 단순한 외연 확장을 넘어 ‘정치적 신뢰 자산’으로 작용할 것으로 기대하고 있다.
정책 설계 단계부터 행정 운영까지 조언이 가능한 인적 기반이 구축되면서, 통합특별시의 초기 설계와 운영 안정성 측면에서 강점을 확보했다는 분석이다.

김 예비후보는 “지역에서 존경받는 어른들이 함께해 주신 것 자체가 큰 책임이자 무거운 사명”이라며 “반드시 초대 통합특별시장이 되어 전남과 광주의 힘을 하나로 모으고, 새로운 도약의 길을 열겠다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “명예후원회장님들의 경륜과 고견을 바탕으로 갈등 없는 통합, 성과로 증명하는 행정을 반드시 실현하겠다.”고 강조했다.

이번 원로들의 집단 합류는 전남·광주 통합특별시장 선거를 단순한 인물 경쟁이 아닌 ‘누가 통합을 안정적으로 완성할 수 있는가’라는 본질적 경쟁으로 끌어올리는 계기가 될 전망이다.

As prominent figures representing the Honam region successively join the camp of Democratic Party preliminary candidate Kim Young-rok, the race is rapidly shifting toward a “stability-driven leadership centered on experience.”
Kim’s campaign, known as the “Solid Camp,” announced on the 26th that Kwon Noh-gap, chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation—widely referred to as the “eternal chief of staff to President Kim Dae-jung”—along with former Gwangju Mayor Park Kwang-tae, former Gwangju University President Noh Jin-young, and former National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Chairman Kim Byeong-won, have accepted positions as honorary campaign co-chairs.
Together with current campaign chair Yoon Poong-sik, they will jointly lead the fundraising committee, while former Mayor Park will also serve as a senior advisor to the election committee, playing a key role in shaping campaign strategy and direction.

In particular, the participation of Chairman Kwon—symbolizing the legacy of former President Kim Dae-jung—carries significant symbolic and political weight.
Kim’s campaign stated, “The participation of senior figures such as Chairman Kwon reflects a broad consensus on regional integration and balanced development between Gwangju and Jeonnam,” adding that “support is consolidating around a leader equipped with experience, trust, and policy capability.”
Senior figures including former Mayor Park emphasized that “Kim is the only candidate capable of leading the historic integration—40 years in the making—without conflict or confusion.”
They further noted, “With a career spanning public service, the National Assembly, ministerial office, and the governorship of Jeonnam, he is a proven administrator with tangible achievements,” adding that he possesses both integrity and strong communication skills.
In recent debates and policy announcements, Kim has positioned himself as an “immediately deployable administrator,” emphasizing an execution-oriented leadership capable of minimizing confusion in the early stages of the integrated metropolitan government.
Within the campaign, the consolidation of these senior figures is expected to serve not merely as an expansion of external support, but as a significant “asset of political credibility.”
With an advisory network capable of contributing from policy design to administrative execution, the campaign is seen as having secured a key advantage in ensuring stability during the early phases of integration.
Kim stated, “The participation of respected senior leaders in our region is both a great honor and a heavy responsibility,” adding, “I will strive to become the first mayor of the integrated metropolitan city and open a new path of growth by uniting the strength of Jeonnam and Gwangju.”
He further emphasized, “With the wisdom and experience of our honorary campaign chairs, we will achieve a conflict-free integration and governance proven through results.”
The collective participation of these senior figures is expected to elevate the election from a simple contest of individuals to a fundamental question: “Who can successfully and stably complete this historic integration?”
